Shooting Dead Paramedic Razan, Israel Violates International Law

Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives Rofi Munawar considered Israel to have committed a planned murder of the Palestinian paramedic Razan Al Najjar. They continued to kill the Palestinians from a variety of professions and backgrounds.

"Israel is like carrying out a massacre on behalf of the state and on the pretext of self-defense, the Zionist state kills anyone who stands before them, children, mothers, journalists and nurses," Rofi Munawar said in a press release addressed to media on Tuesday (05/06/2018) in Jakarta.

Razan al-Najjar, a Palestinian volunteer nurse in charge of the Gaza Strip, was shot dead by Israeli soldiers on Friday (01/06/2018). Razan's death adds to the list of Palestinians killed by Israeli bullets, a total of124 by the end of March. Since March 30, 2018, residents in the Gaza Strip protested at the Israeli border demanding the return of their land after being expelled and fleeing during the war in 1948.

"The protest by Palestinians to commemorate the nakba (land) day at the border of Gaza and the transfer of the US ambassador to Jerusalem has undoubtedly caused Israel to go berserk. Many victims have fallen, but the world remains silent for the countless time.” slammed the member representative of the Prosperous Justice Party faction.

The East Java legislator added that, Razan at the time wore medical attributes and was in a non-threatening position. And yet the Israeli army still fired shots at the 21-year-old woman. For the shooting, Israel should be punished severely for violating the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

"The convention asserted that paramedics to be protected when trying to save those who are wounded in the conflict," he said.

Stipulation on the protection of health workers in the battlefield can be found in the articles of the Geneva Conventions and their additional Protocols. For example, as provided for in Articles 11, 24-27, 36 and 37 of the Geneva Conventions, health workers shall be respected and protected in all circumstances. (hs/sc-chan)
