Speaking in Front of the Crowd of Protesters, House Vice Speaker Vows to Fight for the Labors’ Aspirations

Vice Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the House would fulfill the aspirations of trade unions on the Job Creation Bill. He added that the parliament had formed a working committee and it had agreed to include the aspirations of trade unions in the deliberation of the labor cluster of the bill.
He made the statement when meeting the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) from the elements of labors, farmers and street vendors protesting in front of the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (25/8/2020). Ahmad was accompanied by the Chairperson and the Vice Chairperson of the Legislative Committee of the House Supratman Andi Agtas and Willy Aditya.
“We consider you as brothers and we will do our best to fight for what we have agreed on with the working committee on the labor cluster bill on job creation,” Ahmad stressed his commitment. The Vice Speaker for Economic and Finance mentioned that one of the issues included in the aspiration was the long years of labor disputes.
Ahmad went on to say that the House invites the trade unions to carefully monitor and oversee the bill as best as possible to ensure it would be in line with what have been agreed on in the discussion with the working committee.
“As it was announced by a representative from the trade unions, we may now learn to be friends, but in my opinion, we have already been friends. We would like to extend warm greetings from the Speaker of the House Puan Maharani to all of you. Rest assured that the House will fight for your aspirations,” said the politician from the Great Indonesian Movement (Gerindra) Party.
