House Vice Speaker for People's Welfare, Muhaimin Iskandar, said he hoped that the government of the People's Republic of China would continue to promote programs designed to enhance Indonesia's human resource development. The enhancement could be in the form of bilateral programs and forums, such as programs aiming to support the development of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) through education, science, and technology training.

During a meeting with Wang Chen, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC of China, he made the statements via a video conference at Nusantara Building III, House complex, in Jakarta on Monday (25/10/2021). Muhaimin was joined by his fellow legislators: Faisol Riza, Chairperson of the Commission VI; Anggia Erma Rini, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission IV; and Luluk Nur Hamidah, member of Commission IV.

"Besides that, regarding youth, the Indonesian House looks forward to enhancing cooperation on youth exchange, and exchange of leaders and female figures, and exchange of religious and public figures as well," he said. "That will significantly help to create a more tolerant world with the basis of human values in the future."

He went on to say that amid the Covid-19 pandemic that is not entirely over, the House called for economic cooperation between Indonesia and China, focusing on promoting agricultural products and the fisheries, and products manufactured by micro, small, and medium enterprises to the Chinese market, aside from the investment.

The National Awakening Party (PKB) politician also stressed that bilateral cooperation could help Indonesia fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Iskandar also stated that what became the world's primary concern and Indonesia's expectation was China's assistance for conservation efforts and combating climate change, particularly in Indonesia. "That's my main concern. Indonesia and China have to work together to realize the bilateral agenda," he said. (pun/sf-mut)
